12:39 pm	Rage Update! It looks like the 24 hours of rage is going to be much smaller than early interest led me to anticipate. However, I think this might actually be a different, but equally interesting performance. I think we're looking at 4-8 hours of rage all together, or around 8-16 core participants. I think this is a really excellent opportunity for us all to really get into our performances and have consistent people witnessing. It will probably be intense, small, and a little insular this way. But my sense is that this might make it cooler and more transformative. I'm definitely still going forward: still putting the call out and and preparing my own piece. If every single person flakes, I will still be out there April 15th doing my rage. What are people thinking about? Which media? How do you think your rage will go down? (3 Comments |Comment on this)

5:45 pm	Call for Participants: 24 Hours of Rage Call for Participants 24 Hours of Rage From mid-day Saturday, April 15 to mid-day Sunday, April 16, 2006, 48 women and queers will gather at the Albany Bulb near Berkeley, California and rage for thirty minutes each, for 24 consecutive hours. Participants can rage in any form they dream up: sound, broken glass, poetry, fire, tears, metal, mud, blood, paint, dirt—every medium possible. Prospective participants must know that the Albany Bulb is a potentially hazardous former landfill and home to a small population of homeless people. There is an abundance of trash, tires, rebar, glass, and treacherous terrain. The Bulb is difficult, but not impossible to get to on public transport. There is no electricity, running water, bathroom, or comfortable accommodations of any kind. The site of the performance is a circular fire pit, surrounded by metal sculptures, about 1/2 mile from the parking lot. Getting there requires walking up and down a moderately-steep, muddy hill. Performers will need to provide all of the materials needed to make their performances happen. Rages will be uncurated, but the organizer expects a high level of commitment and responsibility taken by each rager for the setup and cleanup, safety, and possible repercussions of her own performance. This event is intended as a transformative outlet for people who face societal policing for the outward expression of their rage, with the audience as witness. This is an opportunity for personal and collective performance and community art-making. The performance will be free and open to the public.
